Barbados Cherries are prized for their beautiful fruit & flowers. The fruit forms bright green in color, turns to orange, then bright red.
In nature, the Barbados Cherry can grow up to 20 ft in height and width.
It is native to the Lesser Antilles from St. Croix to Trinidad, Curacao, Margarita, and the
northern part of South America as far south as Brazil. It can also be found as an
introduced species in many warm climates throughout the world. They can survive brief exposure to light frost, but young
trees will be killed by any drop below freezing. They do best when kept above 50 degrees. They will adapt to moist and slightly
dry soil, but will not produce fruit if the soil gets on the dry side. They do not like
acid soil, or acid plant food.
